이 글의 목표는 ‘인천형 평화교육’을 정의해 본 뒤, ‘인천형 평화교육’에 부합하도록 현행 난정평화교육원 프로그램 개선 방향을 제안하는 것이다. 인천형 평화교육은 한반도 평화교육의 일환답게 한반도 평화교육의 주안점을 추구하면서, 동시에 19세기 후반 한반도 주변 열강이 벌인 지정학적 갈등의 본무대(本舞臺), 코리안 디아스포라의 아픔과 희망을 기억하는 도시, 한반도의 ‘끝나지 않은 전쟁’과 전쟁 트라우마를 증언하는 도시, 통일로 바닷길을 다시 열고 삶의 터전을 다질 수 있는 도시 같은 인천의 평화 관련 로컬리티를 내재한 평화교육이다. 난정평화교육원 프로그램은 크게 두 가지 측면에서 개선이 필요하다. 첫째, 한반도 주변 열강의 ‘지정학적 갈등’과 ‘분단’이 코리안이 경험하는 직접적·구조적·문화적 폭력의 주된 원인이라는 점, 평화통일 노력이 분단폭력과 지정학적 폭력을 줄이는 데 이바지할 수 있다는 점 등을 참가자들이 인식하도록 돕는 교육 요소들을 보완해야 한다. 둘째, 19세기 후반 한반도 주변 열강이 벌인 지정학적 갈등의 본무대, 코리안 디아스포라의 아픔과 희망을 기억하는 도시 같은 로컬리티까지 포괄적으로 품어나가야 한다.

This study aims to define “Incheon-type peace education” and suggest directions to improve the current Incheon Nanjeong Peace Education center program such that it conforms to the Incheon-type peace education. Incheon-type peace education, which constitutes the Korean Peninsula peace education, primarily pursues Korean Peninsula peace education while simultaneously embodies Incheon’s peacerelated locality, such as the main stage for geopolitical conflicts among the dominating powers surrounding the Korean Peninsula in the late 19th century, which is a city that (i) remembers the tribulation and hope of the Korean diaspora, (ii) testifies to the “unfinished war” and war trauma on the Korean Peninsula, and (iii) can reopen sea routes through unification and provide the foundation for life. The Incheon Nanjeong Peace Education Center program requires two major improvements. First, the educational elements should be supplemented such that the program participants recognize that the “geopolitical conflicts” and “division” of the dominating powers surrounding the Korean Peninsula are the main contributors to the violence experienced by Koreans, and that efforts for peaceful unification will reduce “division violence” and “geopolitical violence.” Second, the program must comprehensively embrace localities such as the city that was the main stage for geopolitical conflicts between the dominating powers surrounding the Korean Peninsula in the late 19th century and one that remembers the tribulation and hope of the Korean diaspora.
