Outline of the Survey JETRO conducted a survey in December 2000 that compared investment- related costs among Asian major cities and regions. Target areas of the survey were the usual 24 cities in 14 countries or regions, including the newly added cities of Tashkent(Uzbekistan), for a total of 25 cities in 15 countries regions. This eleventh surbey(the survey is conducted annually, instead of semiannually, since 2000) was conducted in 25 citiess regarding the investment-related costs like wages, land values, office rents, communication costs, power rates, and water rates that were compared in terms of the dollar. The survey was conducted through the JETRO overseas offices. For wages by job type,surveys of the actual wage status conducted by the local Japanese Chambers of Commerce and Industry were used. When such surveys had not been conducted, four or five Japanese companies were selected as usual and requested to answer questionnaires and interviews. For other costs, information was collected from local governmental organizations and affiliated companies. The interbank rate of December 13,2000 was adopted for local currency exchange rates to the U.S.dollar.
